Poster World at AGI Open
On October 3 and 4, the EPFL+ECAL Lab will present Poster World in the framework of the 2024 AGI Open, the international design conference of the Alliance Graphique Internationale taking place in Basel. On this occasion, this interactive installation, developed in collaboration with Museum für Gestaltung Zürich, will reveal a new graphic selection chosen among the posters designed by the AGI members, including the most influential personalities in the history of graphic design.
Combining curator expertise with the use of different algorithms, and in particular artificial intelligence, Poster World reveals to the public the key visual components of posters such as colours, main composition lines, objects, typography, text positions and contrasts. It thus allows visitors to understand the graphical richness and complexity of this fascinating graphic object that is ubiquitous in our daily lives.
This interactive installation analyses the posters, extracts data and generates a new representation of each poster to visualise a specific feature. It then brings together three visually similar posters on the basis of a chosen criterion.
The Poster World project is the fruit of two-year research in design and digital innovation, carried out by the EPFL+ECAL Lab in collaboration with the Museum für Gestaltung Zürich.
At AGI Open in Basel, it presents a new curated selection of international posters, highlighting the design work of the swiss AGI members.
