SIGGRAPH for Health, August 12, Vancouver
At SIGGRAPH 2025 in Vancouver, the world’s largest conference dedicated to computer graphics and interactive techniques, Nicolas Henchoz, Director of the EPFL+ECAL Lab, has presented the new initiative SIGGRAPH for Health.
As the convergence of AI, computer graphics, and immersive media is transforming healthcare, he has discussed with leading experts new prospects that emerging technologies open in this domain, and how a cultural and human-centered approach can contribute to their adoption.
During the opening session on August 12, the following experts have shared strategies for obtaining international impact, behind the scenes of innovation ecosystems, and real case studies: Oliver Kannape (HUG – University Hospitals Geneva), Till Schnabel (ETH Zürich), Claudia Krebs (The University of British Columbia), Marta Syrko (Artist), Kendall Ho (The University of British Columbia), Yannis Ioannidis (President of the Association for Computing Machinery, University of Athens, ACM), Thomas Schneider (Consul General of Switzerland in Vancouver).
The workshop SIGGRAPH for Health addressed the numerous opportunities that computer imaging and interaction techniques open up in the field of healthcare. New forms of diagnosis, novel therapies, education, prevention and telemedicine can greatly benefit from technological advances. However, these innovations also require to consider how humans perceive data and images in order to encourage their adoption by healthcare professionals and patients.
The session was followed by an interactive workshop and networking event, supported by the Swiss Consulate in Vancouver.
In addition to opening session, SIGGRAPH for Health features exclusive audiovisual contributions from artists and designers, including Marta Syrko, presenting their insights on shaping human-centered tech adoption.
