Poster World at the MuseumNext Summit

On Tuesday 11th October, EPFL+ECAL Lab director Nicolas Henchoz will present the lab’s latest design research project on the potential of A.I. for cultural institutions at MuseumNext Digital Collections Summit. This online event brings together speakers from around the world and key players of the museum industry to discuss the challenges and opportunities of digital collections.

Nicolas Henchoz’s talk, “Curator-AI collaboration: Revealing the secrets of a digital poster collection” will take you behind the scenes of Poster World. The project, which brought together experts in curation, design, and machine learning, had the unique challenge to bring the digitised poster archive of Zurich’s Museum für Gestaltung to life. The talk will take you through the design of the interactive museum installation the EPFL+ECAL Lab designed to showcase this rich and under-accessed collection. Nicolas will explain the techniques used to combine curatorial expertise with artificial intelligence in order to balance the potential of new digital tools with expressive human narrative. He’ll also share insights into how the team were able generate both cognitive and emotional impact for both graphic design experts and the general public.
